REGULATIONS


I. LONG FORMAT


1. Proposal Specs:

● Project must address the topic of "Educate? Educate!" and related to China

● Project running time must be 45 minutes or more

● Must shoot project on HDV or higher quality, sound must be recorded with external mic.

● If accepted for support, delivery format must be in Digi Betacam or un-compressed source from mobile hard drive.

● If accepted for support, deadline for final project: August 31, 2012


2. Eligibility:

● Independent director or producer: Must have completed two 30 minute plus or one 60 minute plus documentary; must possess technical and production know-how.

● Writers, photographers or social worker/activists: must submit work that addresses the topic, must collaborate with a director or producer.


3. Selection process:

● 15 to 20 projects will be selected to attend the Pitching Workshop.

● In the end of the 2-day Pitching Workshop, 5 or 6 projects will receive funding from CNEX.

 

4. Funding:

● Final accepted project(s) may receive up to ¥80,000 RMB or $400,000NTD



II. SHORT FORMAT


1. Proposal Specs:

● Project running time must be 30 minutes or less

● Must shoot project on HDV or higher quality, sound must be captured with external mic

● If accepted for support, delivery format must be in Digi Betacam or un-compressed source from mobile hard drive.

● If accepted for support, deadline for final delivery: March 31, 2012


2. Eligibility:

● None


3. Selection Process:

● 5 to 10 projects will be selected for Pitching Workshop.

● In the end of the 2-day Pitching Workshop, 2 to 3 projects will receive CNEX funding.

 

4. Funding:

● Mainland China: Final accepted project(s) may receive up to ¥15,000RMB

● Outside of China: Final accepted project(s) may receive up to $120,000NTD



III. APPLICATION GUIDELINES


1. Application:

● Fill out online entry form and submit with proposal. Proposal must be submitted online with entry form. (See the end of the entry form for proposal requirements)

● First time CNEX applicants must submit up to 2 work samples. Work samples may be mailed to CENX Taipei or Beijing office (please see contact page for addresses); or provide links of works samples by emailing [email protected]


2. Pitching Workshop:

● Applicants selected for Pitching Workshop have to pitch to the CNEX advisory juries. To attend the Pitching Workshop, the travel and accommodation expenses will be partially supported by CNEX.

● Applicants selected for Pitching Workshop must be able to provide proposal as Power Point Presentation, along with trailer or pictures of the project in order to live pitch.

● Applicant must be able to concisely and fully articulate the project's vision/story. Pitching performance will greatly impact final selection for funding/support.

● Projects with international appeal may be entered into CNEX's CCDF Pitching Forum in Taipei in October 2011.



IV. DEADLINES:


1. Online entry form and proposal deadline: July 20, 2011

2. Announcement for Pitching Workshop: Proposals selected into Pitching Workshop will be announced on CNEX's website in mid August 2011

3. Review Panel forum: Early September 2011 in Beijing. Accepted applicants will be provided details on how to participate in Pitching Workshop at a later date.



V. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:


1. Students and emerging filmmakers welcome.

2. Applicant must be able to finish project with little resources, and effectively promote the project. If project is selected for funding, CNEX shares all rights to project, and will be in charge of the sales and distribution.

3. From the Pitching Workshop, CNEX may select projects with international appeal to participate in CNEX's CCDF Pitch Forum in October 2011 in Taipei.

4. Approximately 6 months after project is accepted for funding, CNEX will hold an editing workshop in Beijing. Accepted projects must bring assembled footage or rough cut to the workshop. CNEX producers and consultants will be on site to provide technical expertise and editing know-how. CNEX will pay for workshop related fees including lodging and transportation. At the end of the workshop, CNEX will nominate one project with international appeal to receive guidance and consultation from world-renown editor, as well as help project secure additional funding.
